"Speedy gynae cancer service from warm and friendly..."

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

Anything else?

The care that I experienced in the gynae department in Queen Charlotte's hospital was wonderful. I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer quickly, had an operation within days of diagnosis and afterwards spent 24 hours in Victor Bonney Ward among friendly dedicated staff who took very good care of me. The hospital was extremely clean and the ancillary services, physiotherapy advice, cancer counseling from the nurse specialist , food and drinks from the kitchen staff and a visiting trolley run (presumably) by volunteers were all carried out professionally and with good humour. I wish to particularly recommend the nursing staff who, though very busy were attentive and monitored me well after the operation though there were other pts in the ward who were clearly in a worse state that I was. They were also kind to my husband who was quite distressed. I do not know why the NHS is so derided by both politicians and the media, I have nothing but praise for my hard working GP and, the first time that I have been inside a hospital for 40 off years, I find that the technology amazing and the stafff dedicated. There is nothing wrong with the NHS, long may it last. thank you everyone. I was a nurse a very long time ago and had imagined that the attitude of nurses had changed in the last 40 or 50 years, particularly since my contemporaries who continued in their nursing careers told me that in order to be promoted within the NHS one had to give up the caring side of nursing and concentrate on administration and management. The nurses that I encountered in Queen Charlotte's combined both efficiency with care and treated me as an individual who needed to be talked to and looked after.
