I am a 16 year old female and my appendix was infected and 'grumbling' from Monday 22nd. I spent the week on surgical ward 5 and was allowed home on the Friday after having strong antibiotics to kill the infection to allow doctors to operate in a couple of weeks. I came home and wasn't at all well. Still in major pain. I coped with the pain until Tuesday morning where I was taken very poorly and an ambulance was called because it was feared my appendix had burst - as so it did!! I got to the hospital at 12.00 and was put on a drip, given pain relief and assured things where going to be okay. I did wait 3 hour to see my surgeon I previously saw the week before, however I know they are extremely busy so this was no problem. My pain got worse and I became more unwell. Surgeons and doctors saw me and it was decided that I needed emergency surgery to remove my appendix. I was put on medical ward 9 until my surgery and then went down at 19.00. I was in theatre for 3 1/2 hours from start to finish and then taken to PIU ward. I stayed the night and then moved to my own room the night after. I also had a bad reaction to the annastetic which made me even more unwell. All of the nurses and doctors on duty that night helped me all night and I was kept on close observation all night.. I cannot praise the teams, nurses, surgeons, doctors and any one else who helped me enough. I have had to attend this hospital on several occasions and every time the doctors have been wonderful, caring, professional and have helped me so much. Thank you so much everyone.
