What I liked
I was a patient in the coronary care unit in December 2007. I have previously apprehensive about my pain control after surgery as I had an operation in a Coventry hosptial some years ago, which was appalling from start to finish.
I did not need to worry, the staff, surroundings and care in Glenfield were absolutely brilliant. All staff were respectful, the wards were spotless. I cannot praise highly enough, a very smart and professional approach, tempered with empathy where appropriate. This was a 'whole' experience from the surgeon's team to the ward staff, cardiac care team to physio, HDU, receptionists and hospital cleaning teams. I don't think I could have been treated better if I had private health care. Outstanding!
What could be improved
If I have one gripe it is the food choices. Being a heart patient meant I was very keen to stick to a sensible diet. There were days on the menu when all of the ood options contained saturated fat. One day the sandwich choice was cheese and tomato or corned beef! Everyday the snack option was a muffin! I believe it could be improved by a wider choice in salads, for example pasta or bean salads, and definitely a fruit choice for a snack, or juice, smoothie or low fat youghurt.
