I went to see my GP about depression after having suicidal thoughts. I couldn't sleep. I was up for 3 nights straight.
I had no assessment. I was given some antidepressants (SSRIs) and sent on my way after explaining my agitated state. The appointment lasted for about 2-3 minutes. I was told nothing of the antidepressants effects nor was there any consideration over the best course of treatment ie which kind of antidepressant.
I feel let down by the apparent lack of mental health awareness from my GP and I am still struggling with racing thoughts etc. I have told my GP this.
In my opinion, there is a serious lack of interest in mental health patients which can be a matter of life and death and all too often is.
