I was diagnosed at the age of 75 with type 2 diabetes and as a result my GP invited me and my wife to attend a DESMOND diabetes group. This was run by a Dietitian and a Podiatrist and was a whole day discussion which we both found very helpful.
They discussed the causes of diabetes and how to manage the disease both in the short and long term. We discussed diet and exercise. The way the course was run involved all the people taking part (there were 6 of us) and working out between all of us how we could control the diabetes.
When we arrived we knew little bits about diabetes but when we left we were extremely well informed.
