"Great service provided by theatre, midwives and..."

Anything else?

I spent eight days at the PRU maternity unit for induction, emergency c- section and follow up care two weeks ago and found the majority of staff to be amazingly helpful given the busy circumstances under which they work. We are indebted to the consultant and his team for the safe arrival of our son following an emergency C-section due to concerns following induced labour. The induction team were thorough in their care and at raising the alarm with the consultant, who was swift to perform the cSection. We are extremely grateful to all at the maternity unit for their advice, support and care - midwife teams, special care baby unit, nurses, consultants, theatre team and paediatricians. The majority of staff took the time to introduce themselves when coming on to shift, thereby offering a very personable service, which was much appreciated. The only constructive feedback we would provide is that we felt a disconnection between midwife and consulting staff communicatn after the birth when asking why our son was on medication and how long we would need to remain in hospital: due to the turnover in midwife day and night shifts, it took us a couple of days to get definitive answers and we had to be persistent. Our other concern was the intense heat of the maternity ward - being in hospital the hottest week of the year, and there being a lack of fans was very uncomfortable. We were removed to a new ward with air conditioning briefly which was much more comfortable, but not all rooms were so well equipped. That said, the staff did all they could to make us comfortable. I would definitely recommend this maternity ward to mothers to be and felt in very capable hands for the duration of our stay. Thanks again to all.
