I was admitted into Fairfield General hospital on 27 March 2013 with Cellulitis. This is potentially a serious infection which if left untreated could lead to sepsis or even fatality. Being a type 2 diabetic, my immune system is more susceptible increasing my risks to more serious infections . Therefore, the correct treatment requires a course of Amoxicillin & Clavulanic Acid antibiotics to be given intravenously. After 2 days with an intravenous drip attached to my left hand the cannula caused an extremely painful inflammation and required relocating. Unfortunately, being a Good Friday, the only doctor on duty for Ward F14 that day was an on-site Senior House Officer. On 3 separate occasions I approached him asking to relocate the cannula and continue with the vital, prescribed treatment. On each occasion with an arrogant and condescending manner he refused point blank insisting it wasn't his responsibility. In doing so, refusing me the basic rights to vital treatment putting my life at risk. Doctors now are even avoiding the carrying and wearing of name badges... making it virtually impossible to identify them. I ask you, how can this attitude be tolerated within the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust? As a consequence of his actions a serious complaint was lodged with the Complaints Department whom have been very dismissive over the matter forcing me to take the matter up with the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman What's happening to our trusted National Health Service? My advice is to avoid Fairfield General Hospital at all costs where possible.....
"refused treatment by on-site senior house officer..."
