Anything else?
Having seen the reports yesterday of NHS pulling out of their 111 contracts in certain areas, I wanted to add my experience into the mix. I rang 111 on Tuesday last week at c.0600 having had no sleep due to abdominal pain. They were able to advise very quickly that I have a GP consultation and arranged for such an event 1hr later at my local walk-in care centre in Shotley Bridge. They offered an ambulance, which on balance I probably should have accepted, but in any event I was seen quickly at Shotley bridge and 1hr later (0900) I was admitted to the Surgical Admissions Unit in Durham where the operative care process began to remove my appendix. I was very impressed overall with the speed and efficiency with which I was processed, and the care of the nurses and other staff in ward 14 of the university hospital, Durham. Nevertheless it all began with the 111 service. Thank you. Simon Robeson
