About: Homerton University Hospital

Anything else?

I have had 3 operations at Homerton and 2 out of the 3 times were traumatizing experiences. I would not recommend the Hospital for any inpatient experiences as I found the staff to be rude and ignorant with a couldn't care less attitude to the patient care. Nurses that took no notice for hours on end if you pressed the button. A Male visitor allowed to sit 24/7 hrs in a female only ward left no privacy. I was left 5 days without a wash when i couldn't clean myself when asked to clean me someone came and left a bowl and cloth at the bottom of the bed and left it there where I couldn't reach it even though if I could have i couldn't have washed myself because of the pain from major cancer surgery. After a hysterectomy I had no pain killers for 2 days because the Dr wasn't there to prescribe over the weekend and i was left in pain and a 5 day stay turned into a 9 day stay because of an infection I got from the surgery itself. Staff notes kept at the end of the bed were not accurate and staff even lied in the notes to cover themselves. Stitches were left in and forgotten about until the skin grew over them and I was told I could go home I asked about the stitches and were removed by tugging them out without any local anesthetic which I was told I would have by the senior nurse after 4 Nurses were called to see what to do this was very painful I'm sure my screams were heard all over Hackney. I wasn't given any food on 2 days because they didn't bring enough for everybody and was given a sandwich on one of those occasions and nothing on the other. After my hysterectomy I was discharged and on my way out of the hospital when a nurse came charging after me just as I was getting into a taxi because they had given me someone else's medicine to go home with. It was 8 hours of waiting until I got my own medicine given to me. after a TVT op a minor op compared to the hysterectomy and the Kidney removal for cancer I was treated well by the staff and is the only time that I was happy with the staff. They were attentive and caring. If only the other 2 occasions that were more traumatic had been as well cared for. The main consultant and the operating staff and ICU staff were very good it is only the ward staff that were uncaring and they need to be retrained to be compassionate with patients and to be more attentive to patient needs and not ignore patients when asked for help.
