"inefficient administration"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

Was booked for a cataract operation 08.00 Sunday 28.07.13. Surgeon rang 08.15 Saturday and asked if I could go in a day early due to cancellations, this I agreed to do. Was rung back 30 minutes later by an admin person who said I would not be able to go in on the Saturday and possibly not the Sunday as they could not find my notes - along with other peoples notes. This turned out to be the case so surgeon available, operating suite set up, patient ready for operation but no operation and no date for surgery and as yet No word as to whether or not my notes have turned up Surely in this day and age all someone had to do was imput either my name or NI number and print this information. Yet more money wasted due to a top heavy inefficient administration system

Thank you for posting your feedback on the NHS Choices website. We are sorry you have had recent difficulties with your cataract appointment and this information has been passed on to the relevant people. Learning from incidents like this is very important for us as we strive to deliver better care. We are currently carrying out a review on patient records and how these are tracked within the hospitals.
