"Aged Mother's care"

About: St Helier Hospital

Anything else?

Male carers to do personal care for female who doesn't like it and would not have agreed to it if asked. Call button.. not only out of reach as I have found on every visit to hospital....but actually pulled out from wall with bare wires... complaining loudly actually achieved results and a nice guy can to fix it right away.... Mother returned to nursing home with two cuts to legs and bruising on arm... her dementia means she cannot tell me what happened and no nurses actually said anything to me about these injuries and how they were acquired. Total lack of anything to occupy patients minds Gross overheating as left under window in the hot weather with no blinds or cooling available. No care taken over providing regular medications as no request made to me about what she normally takes Confusion about sending her home... where home was as Mum confused and so it took a while to establish where she had to go despite me having told nurse clearly the day before. No attempt to keep me informed about her care.

Response from St Helier Hospital

We're grateful for your review and apologise for the delay in responding to your comments. I do hope your mother is now recovering well and I can only apologise for her lack of care that you so clearly describe. So I can make sure we learn from your mother's case, it would help if you would let me know which ward she stayed in. I would be grateful if you would call one of my patient advice and liaison team (PALS) on 020 8296 2508 or email pals@esth.nhs.uk and we can investigate this properly and share our response with you. Further information is available on our website at www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/pals. Thank you again for your feedback. Pippa Hart Director of Nursing
