"Dismissive and incompetent!"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

Anything else?

My 87 year old grandmother was admitted 3 weeks ago after a PE, and from day one it has been non-stop incompetence! During her stay she has endured a fall due to being left alone in a bathroom, resulting in after bruises and a sizable bump on her head, being left in a chair long after bedtime to be informed she had been "forgotten about" and then having her legs, which she cannot lift herself, painfully swung up and dumped onto her bed like she was a nuisance, losing two prescriptions within the first day, being left in a corridor without Oxygen (which she is permanently on) for two hours and having a huge blister on her leg covered over with just Tegaderm, directly onto the wound, without any gauze, resulting in it then taking over an hour and various nurses to get off, thus as you can imagine ripped the skin open leaving my grandmother in agony and now bandaged up to the knee! And this was caused by a Ward Sister! It also came to light that several of the care workers had not been trained in Oxygen use, with their own admissions that their training sheets were just ticked anyway! She was moved around numerous wards that she had no need to be on, because no-one apparently had a clue what to treat her for. This and numerous other faults add up to a whole !undignified and disgraceful experience that no-one should ever have to go through, whatever age they are. There are people who are meant to be in care work and people who are unquestionably not! Burton Hospital seriously needs to distinguish between the two because at the moment, they are giving the NHS a terrible name!
