"the worst experience ever"

About: Hereford County Hospital

Anything else?

i gave birth to my son at hereford hospital in March 2013. I was due to be induced (preeclampsia) and arrived on time - 8 hours later after a lot of debate about wether I actually had preeclampsia or not (i'd been signed off work for the past two months, been back and forth to see the consultant every week for months, had high BP & was on meds and had protien in my urine) they did started me off. it took ages to get going but I did expected this. The birth itself was ok (the midwifes on the labour ward were fab - unlike those on the maternity ward who just did not want to be there). I had an epidural and about half an hour after my beutiful boy was born I had a headache - a bad one. turned out to be a dural leak. this meant I had to stay in hospital for the next week or so to be monitored in the hope it would orrect itself the headache meant i could not stand up or raise my head without extreeme pain (try looking after /breast eeding a newborn in this condition!). I ended up being on the maternity ward for over a week after giving birth. it was the worst experience ever Neither my or my son's sheets were changed once during this time (i did it myself three times in the end by taking sheets out of the storage unit in the corridor). the staff were extremely rude - they would not let my mother in during the day while my partner was at work because she was not my birthing partner - despite the that fact i could not stand or sit up; I asked seven times for the needle in my hand from the birth to be removed (they did this on day five); if my partner stayed 2 minutes after the visiting time they would ask him to leave; they were rude in all their dealings with me (i think they thought I was there unneccesarily - i'd have loved to be at home); each midwife would tell you something different from the one before. all in all I spent a lot of time alone and crying. I dont really know whether to complain officially - but it was sooo bad. the main thing is we have our baby boy and he is happy and healthy (thank god)
