"Minor injuries unit - extremely rude nurse"

About: Wharfedale Hospital

Anything else?

My father who is retired has fallen from a ladder and over an 8ft wall Fearing he had broken something and as he was in great discomfort , I looked on the Wharfedale hospital website reading whether or not he was suitable to go to the minor injuries unit there. A 10 minute drive compared to a 40 minute to Harrogate Hospital. The website said that the Minor Injuries Unit could treat broken bones I took my father along with my mother who had witnesses the accident to the Minor Injuries Clinic My father had to use a wheelchair as he could not walk due to the pain. We were triaged very quickly at the minor injuries unit and were usher into see a nurse. I pushed my father into the room and my mother followed. My mother had just had foot surgery so was unable to to push the wheelchair as she still had her foot strapped following surgery. The nurse was then very rude and sarcastic saying only one person in the room with my Dad. She then said it was far too hot in the room and no more than 1 person . It wasn't hot, it was cloudy outside. My father wanted both my mother and myself there so we could listen to the prognosis and try and help answer any questions. The nurse sat there and waited until I would leave the room. She said my father wasn't a small child and didn't need comforting I immediately went to complain at the desk about the treatment from the nurse , to which I got no joy In the meantime my father had refused to be seen until I was let back in the room , he was in pain and distress and didn't need this My father was examined, a deep wound wasn't stitched and cleaned out as was required but a dressing out over the dressing my mother had applied Concerns over my fathers back meant he would need an X-ray. The nurse said we only do X-rays from the knee down so you will have to go to another hospital. The reason why we went there was because it said that they treated broken bones We were given some notes and shooed out of the department as quickly as possible, with no apologies etc We took my father to Harrogate Hospital where he received the best treatment, got the X-rays, stitches and good nursing care that he should have got before. His wounds should have been cleaned out at Wharfedale , that was made very clear to us. I will never use this service again. Attitude of the staff disgusting and why say you treat broken bones on your website and then only offer X-rays below the knee Go to Harrogate Hospital or Ripon Minor Injuries as their staff and service is excellent
