"getting out after a 4 hour wait"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

getting out after a 4 hour wait

What could be improved

AFTER ARRIVING AT THE A&E I WAS TOLD I HAD A 4 HOUR WAIT WHICH I DIDNT MIND AS I NEEDED THE TREATMENT.WHAT DID BOTHER ME WAS WE WERE JOINED 1 HOUR AFTER ARRIVAL BY A LOCAL DRUNK WHO WAS KNOWN ON FIRST NAMED TERMS BY STAFF.MOMENTS AFTER THERE HE WET HIMSELF I TOLD THE STAFF ON RECEPTION ONLY TO BE TOLD YES WE KNOW HE DID IT IN THE AMBULANCE ASWELL, MINUETS LATER THEY SRAYED AIR FRESHNER WHEELED HIM OUT SIDE AND PUT A LARGE BED PAD OVER THE URINE WHICH WAS STILL THERE 3 HOURS LATER WHEN I LEFT. THE MAN WANDERD IN AND OUT SITTING ON DIFFERENT CHAIRS IN THE WAITING AREA IN HIS WET TROUSERS.HOW INSTERILE IS THIS TO PEOPLE WITH OPEN WOUNDS LIKE MYSELF.DURING MY WAIT THE DRUNK MAN WAS JOINED BY 2 OTHER EQUALLY AS DRUNK FRIENDS WHO WERE ALL OBVIOUSLY HOMELESS AND USING A&E WAITING FACILITIES AS A PLACE TO SLEEP OFF THERE ALCOHOL TO THE TOTAL IGNORANCE OF SECURITY STAFF ,AND ALL 3 MEN LEFT WITH NO TREATMENT OR TRIAGE ASSESMENT AFTER 3 HOURS.THIS MAY HAVE BEEN UNDERSTANDABLE IF A&E RECEPTION WAS OVER POPULATED AND BUSY BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE THERE WERE 2 STAFF ON RECEPTION AND 2 SECURITY STAFF ASWELL,ALL SITTING AND CHATING OBLIVIOUS TO WHAT WAS GOING ON.WHILE I WAS THERE NOBODY ATTEMPTED TO WIPE THE SEATS OR FLOOR WITH ANTISEPTIC OR MAKE THE UNIT CLEAN AND STERILE.ON THE WHOLE THIS WAS A MOST UNPLEASENT EXPERIENCE FOR ME YET ALONE YOUNG CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY.I UNDERSTAND THAT RESOURCES ARE STRETCHED BUT COMMON SENSE AND HEALTH AND SAFTEY SHOULD ALWAYS BE A PRIORITY.AND SOMETIMES WAITING FOR SOME ONE ELSE TO A JOB HOW EVER HIGH RANKED YOU ARE MAY NOT BE SITABLE FOR THE SAFTEY OF OTHERS.
