"Woeful antenatal care"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

Anything else?

I recently waited for an appointment with a consultant for two and a half hours in a steamingly hot waiting area. I can accept that it is not always possibly to see a consultant on time, but it would be nice to be treated properly by staff in the meantime. I observed stressed looking staff openly complaining about patients - in front of us. A friend was weighed in front of everyone, and I was ticked off for not bringing a urine sample and told that "people like you hold everything up". My blood pressure, which has been 110/60 throughout the pregnancy, shot up to 145/90 due to the irritation, heat and stress of having to wait for so long. Not a single smile on the staff's faces - just scowls and grimaces and condescending tones when talking to patients. Great to be given the opportunity to leave a mystery shopper's opinion - let's hope someone in the department will read this and decide to address the problem. I have decided to have the baby elsewhere as I cannot possibly relax in such an awful environment, and I would like to say that the alternative is completely the opposite - always on time, smiling, friendly people and altogether the sort of place that makes people feel welcome.
