"Diagnosis from a non caring Consultant"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Anything else?

My husband was diagnosed with Cancer in a matter of fact way!! As a nurse of 28 years I found their approach disgusting, their lack of caring was beyond belief. However the Queen Elizabeth redeemed themselves once we changed to another consultant. Endoscopy suite you and your staff fabulous caring nursing approach, reception staff not as good. Ward 10 Chemo Unit care second to none, just wish the wait from pharmacy was more up to speed.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience of our services. I am very sorry to learn of both your husband’s cancer diagnosis and the way in which you were informed of this. As I do not know which consultant you saw originally, I cannot look into this matter further. However, if you speak to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 953 0667 and provide them with some more details, I will personally investigate this matter and come back to you. I am obviously pleased to hear that your experience improved and thank you for your kind comments about both our endoscopy unit and our chemotherapy unit. I have passed on your comments to the two sisters on those units for them to share with their colleagues as such feedback enables us to make improvements. The chemo unit and pharmacy work closely together to both ensure patients treatments are as timely as possible and to improve services. I hope your husband’s continued care remains a positive experience and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further support.
