"My local doctors surgery"

About: East Anglia

(as the patient),

Difficulties getting a face to face meeting with doctor after being advised to do so on leaving hospital following high blood pressure and chest pains. After consultation with practice nurse she told me to book an appointment with doctor at reception on way out was told to go home and ring in. On complaint to the relevant Trust a telephone appointment was made for me on my behalf by them.

On being advised by physiotherapist that I should ask Doctor for quinine was told that could not be done without consultation, but no appointments were available. Again told to ring surgery 3 days later after the weekend.

On going to surgery with achilles tendon problem was referred straight to A and E by practice nurse without seeing doctor. At A and E was told to take more anti inflammatory tablets, which the practice doctor could have advised.

It seems to me that my local surgery is using A and E as an easy alternative to providing adequate provision themselves. The local surgery appointment system is more like a barrier to health provision rather than an enabler.
