"During my stay overall the staff ..."

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

(as the patient),

What I liked

During my stay overall the staff were nice apart from the odd one or two who don't seem to understand what pain actually is. One nurse in particular left me over 5 hours waiting for oramorph which I thought was prescribed four hourly and found out later after speaking to the nurse on the next shift who got it for me in minutes that it was actually written up that I could have it 2 - 4 hourly.

I understand that nurses and staff are busy but their jobs are to look after the patients and keep them out of pain, not keep them in pain.

As for the cleaning, most of the cleaners, I would praise to the hilt and saying that they were of non british nationalities. They worked like trojans and cleaned every area where the english cleaners seemed to just turn up to make the numbers up and missed lots of places which should have been cleaned.

Meals:- well the menus sounded lovely but in all honesty there was nothing that didnt have mince in it really, I love mince but since leaving hospital I havn't touched it.

Overall I think most of the staff should be given a medal for some ofthe patients they have to put up with and I did have confidence in most of them.

One thing I wasn't pleased with was the amount of medication I was discharged with. I was in no fit state to get more meds so had to get family to get in touch with gp as soon as I got home as I was in so much pain.

What could be improved

Well firstly more staff, which all hospitals wish for. I just think that when a member of staff says they are going to do something they should do it. It isnt pleasant being in hospital anyway really so a bit of time and effort makes you feel better and settled.

The food honestly could be improved, I lived on desserts and crackers.

Adequate medication to take home ready when discharged.
