"Disgusted with the care I received "

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

I have an incurable illness which means I get abscesses all over my body so I'm constantly in hospital having incision & drainage done. I feel the surgeons I meet treat me like I'm some sort of hindrance and try to send me home with antibiotics even though they don't work. They refuse to give me pain killers that are stronger than paracetamol like I'm some sort of drug addict. I feel they talk to me like a child when I'm 27 years old. Some staff seem to talk about me like I'm not there.

I had a recent operation and as I was waking up in the recovery room I started to cry because I was in pain. The recovery nurse told me to stop crying, didn't seem to think it was that painful and said she wouldn't give me painkillers. She asked me to calm down so she could release me back to the ward. I had a 5cm hole in my stomach. On the ward, I was screaming in pain from 11am - 6pm. The ward staff gave me paracetamol and shut the curtain round me. I felt the surgeons were sarcastic with me and had no time for me then were contradicting what I was saying.

I will no doubt need to go to hospital again soon due to the severe pain these abscesses cause me but I refuse to go to my local hospital any more. I will either sit at home in agony or have to travel to either Chorley or Bolton hospital. I am absolutely disgusted with the care I received at this hospital. Something needs to be done.
