"Treated terrible on Deal Ward"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

Anything else?

A friend of mine was admitted on to Deal Ward in July 2013. In the days that she was in she was treated terrible. She was given one shower, her hair was not brushed all the time that she was in. her buzzer was on the floor and she was unable to ring for a nurse, and when she did manage this nursing staff looked to see who it was and realised that because she was a double hander she was being ignored. her food was not put in front of her to reach and when staff came to collect her plate they made remarks about her not eating, her drinks were placed at end of table out of reach, and the list goes on. On her arrival home she was so upset about the way that she was treated, took 10 minutes to get tangle and knots out of her hair, which was painful for her, and again the list goes on!!

Thank you for providing us with feedback, and I am sorry that your friend's experience of her care was not at the standard we would expect. I will feed this back to staff in the meantime if your friend would like me to follow this through as a complaint, please do email me her details to julie.pearce1@nhs.net

I do hope your friend is recovering from her illness.
