"Heart attack and back in 60 minutes"

About: Heartlands Hospital

Anything else?

On June 18th I suffered a heart attack at home in Sutton Coldfield as I was due to leave for work. The ambulance arrived in minutes, I was assessed and had a cannula inserted timed at six minutes past nine. A blues and twos ride to Heartlands followed where I was admitted directly into Ward Six and within minutes into theatre where my completely blocked artery was stented restoring blood flow to the heart. The before and after films of the procedure showed explicitly just how successful it had been. I was lying in my recovery bed back in the ward before the clock had reached ten o clock. This was joined up team work all the way through of an incredible standard. That speed to rectify the problem undoubtedly saved my heart from further damage at best and maybe something far more serious at worst. By six thirty that evening I was transferred to ward 23 at my local hospital, Good Hope which was much more convenient for my wife and family to visit. This new unit is impressive. I was brilliantly looked after at both hospitals and simply could not fault any aspect of the treatment at all. At all stages I was fully informed about what was happening which allowed me to go into things with my eyes fully open. Everyone took ownership of every aspect of my treatment and to those staff members I badgered into trying to get me home to see the Lions v Australia on the box I must tell you I enjoyed every kick and tackle. If I were reading a review like this I would probably think that it was all too good to be true and that my judgements were clouded by the emotions of the event. The simple facts are that this is how it all happened without exaggeration. From 999 call to getting home this whole process ran like a well oiled machine and to everyone who might remember me at both Heartlands and Good Hope thank you all from the bottom of my much improved and repaired heart.
