"I went to A&E following seeing ..."

About: Solihull Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I went to A&E following seeing my GP about a problem with my foot. I was left waiting for ages before triage but once I had been seen initially the staff were excellent. They kept me informed of everything that was happening, and did their best to investigate the problem and reduce my pain.

What could be improved

I'm a proud person and won't sit kicking and screaming when I'm in pain. I prefer to maintain dignity but if I had been seen shortly after my arrival I wouldn't have sat in pain for several hours. There was another patient in A&E also waiting after a head trauma who wasn't dealt with for 4 hours, but she was looking paler and disorientated. It took for three patients to complain before she was seen.

We would ask visitors to A&E to let staff know if they are in several pain. As will all A&E departments we try and see all patients as quickly as possible but do sometimes need to priorise patients in most need of urgent care.
