"wonderful care"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

My daughter was admitted with abdo pain via A&E. She was quickly seen in triage & examined by 2 doctors in A&E. As a 13yr old she was encouraged to answer questions about her health & any sensitive questions were asked tactfully. We were kept informed at all times. Staff carefully applied emla anaethetic cream before inserting a venflon & taking blood tests & she felt no pain at all. Her cubicle was freshly cleaned on arrival. She was then admitted to children's ward where the team were very friendly & reassuring & showed me to a very welcome free drinks room! The surgeon who assessed her was honest & polite & thorough. All the staff were lovely , checking on her frequently to do observations & check on pain levels. They reminded me how great our NHS is when you really need it! Luckily her pain settled & after further review with a surgical registrar ( who was very apologetic we had to wait even though he had been performing emergency lifesaving surgery before attending!) she was allowed home & has now made a full recovery. All of the staff we met made a long & worrying day as easy as they could for my daughter and for me - my daughter would not be as worried about attending in future - great care!

Thank you so much for your extremely positive feedback. We do aim to offer the highest standards of care and it is gratifying to know we were able to offer you and your daughter the very best of experiences at what was obviously a very anxious time. Our staff in A&E and on the children’s ward work tirelessly on behalf of our young patients to help make their hospital visits as worry-free as possible. We will be more than happy to pass your lovely comments to the teams involved. This is one of the ways we like to recognise the great work they do. Other ways include our annual staff awards, ‘Committed to Excellence’, which recognises our staff who go the extra mile for our patients. If you feel it is appropriate, why not nominate the teams you have mentioned using the online nomination form on our Trust website http://dev01.dgh.nhs.uk/committedtoexcellence/
