"Long waiting times to see oncologist"

About: Derriford Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

In July, I had a one and a half wait to see oncologist to deliver bad news.

I then had a 45 minute wait in September, 40 minute wait in December, 45 wait in March to see the oncologist. I also had a 40 minute wait in May to see the doctor.

I had to wait in a pokey little room in the department. In the second and subsequent visits I told staff I would prefer to wait in the main waiting room.

Dear Earthy800

I was very sorry to read your e-mail and note that you have on five separate occasions had to wait longer than acceptable to see your doctor, on the first and longest occasion in relation to receiving bad news. This must have been extremely difficult for you and is very far from ideal for which I apologise on behalf of the Trust.

I will ensure the managers for the area are made aware of your experiences but if you would like to speak to me, I can be contacted on 01752 439751

Thank you for bringing this to our attention via Patient Opinion.

Best wishes

Mary
