"Gynaecological problems in North London"

About: University College Hospital Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

About 3 months ago, I started to have continuous periods. Painfull and very frustrating. Went to my GP. Got a first treatment. he also recommends a scan.

Done, i have a fibroids in the womb. Quite normal, nothing to worry about, i am told. Bleeding stops after 2 days. Great! I thought after having bled for 4 weeks!

2 weeks later, the bleeding starts again. I waited, thinking it was my normal periods. 5 weeks later, i was still bleeding, sometimes quite heavily. I go to my GP. Closed. Fair enough, it's wednesday...

As i had taken time off work, I go to the local hospital, london, euston rd. I see a doctor. Get urine sample, blood tests, smear tests, swabs. She orders a 2nd scan, saying i would be contacted within 2 days and i would also get the tests results. I get a course of anti biotics, and tranexcemic acid to stop the bleeding.

1 week later, still no call. Bleeding still doesnt stop. I call the NHS direct. They say i should go to my GP. It's saturday. GP closed. I go back to the hospital. Get my tests results: no infection, not anemic. Get more blood tests. See another doctor, who says i should see a gynecologist, and go to the EGU, that he would wait for me. I ask where is the EGU, she says she doesnt know... I ask the staff at reception. They dont know and send me to the Elisabeth Garreth Hospital, 2 blocks down. There i go, they send me back to the main hospital, saying i need the AGU or EPU on the 13th floor. There i go.

I see doctor, who says i already had a scan, so what is the point of a 2nd one? I understand. But then, he is the one who should tell me what is wrong. What then? I get the 2nd scan. Still see fibroids. Now what? He does a biopsy. I get on another course of medication.

After 3 days, bleeding stops. 2 days later, bleeding starts again... Still no news from biopsy. I call the hospital. Staff at reception asks what a biopsy is so they can out me thru to the right department. I explain. I get transfered.

The staff who answers says i am at the neurology dept. He transfers me. I am at the muscular biopsy dept. I get transfered. Back at the neurology. I get a number to call. I give up.

Next day, I go to my GP. This morning. Saturday. I should have remembered.. closed. There is an emergency number. I call. They say they cant take my call if i am not at home... I have never heard this in my life! What a pointlessly useless policy.

I call my mum. She says i should go home to France. I will do, because never in my life have seen so many useless people! I have been living here for more than 8 years. Been ill only rarely. I pay my NHS contribution every month to receive the most undergraded treatment, and i still have to go home and pay there to receve a decent treatment.

I am angry, frustrated, tired, stressed and i feel like shouting at the next NHS staff i hear. But then, they will say i am assaulting them. Well Done England!

I just feel like i dont want to pay my my nhs tax every month. But do i have the choice?
