"Depressed"

About: Halton Surgical Centre

Anything else?

The write up about the facilities at this hospital look very good but does not make clear that not everybody is able to have their operation there because Halton does not have a high dependancy bed. Due to my weight I must have my total knee replacement at Warrington Hospital. I don't have a problem with the operation being done at Warrington however reading about the facilities makes it sound as if all operations are done at Halton. If the facilities are that good why not have a high dependancy bed then everybody can be catered for. As the previous person I have been waiting since my original consultation in March. Since the beginning of the year I have been unable to go more than a few hundred yards on my own and the optimism of an operation now turning to depression I have got myself a mobility scooter as I cannot see my operation happening in the near future. As far as I am concerned the system is seriously flawed or I am being discriminated against because of my weight.

Thanks for leaving your feedback. You are right that we do carry out orthopaedic surgery where there could be an increased risk to the patient at Warrington, where our intensive care and high dependency unit is based. Unfortunately, high dependency care needs a wider team to provide cover so it is not possible to provide it in every part of the trust. However, the surgical team will be the same as is based at the CMTC - we just provide the surgery at Warrington for increased safety in these cases. It is certainly not about discrimination, but providing the safest service to you with the back up support that you might need.
