I recently participated in a Tweet Chat on provision of support from health care professionals for people with Type 1 Diabetes. It became very clear that the support I enjoy is much better than most people anywhere else in the UK. I don't take this for granted, but it did really emphasis how lucky I and other people with Type 1 diabetes are in this part of the world, and I thought I would share my views.
The specialist team at the Diabetes Centre in Inverness are supportive, encouraging but also realistic. They have never talked down to me and will give me technical information if I ask for it, but will also acknowledge that sometimes they don't know. Possibly most refreshing of all, when discussing changes to the basal profile for my insulin pump, I was told recently by my DSN "you're the expert"!
We hear enough horror stories about the NHS but I wanted to provide at least 1 example of brilliant service, high quality care and real empathy with patients. Difficult to get better than that!
