What I liked

Following a dreadful, traumatic stay in this hospital and with inadequate after care instructions when discharged on day 2 post op, in desparation I contacted the trauma unit and was given a nurse's name on the orthopaedic ward whom I contacted. They were totally professional, informed, caring and very reassuring. I cannot speak to highly of them.

What could be improved

Totally inadequate preop information given by emergency on-take orthopaedic medical team. Abrupt threatening approach pre operatively by orthopaedic registra. No post op support by surgical team.They didnt even know where I was. My family members were told on several occasions that I was not a patient in the hospital.

Non exitstant basic nursing care. Sloppy unprofessional approach by most nurses some even refusing to help "Not my patient" "Cant help you up the bed -not allowed" "Dont know what to do with you. We are not orthopaedic trained"

By 2nd day post op following fracture of neck of femur I had been moved to three different wards, I was told they needed my bed. I thought I needed my bed. Telephone system is a complete con trick especially when moved from one ward to another. I must have lost about £10. I never actually reached the orthopaedic wards.Prematurely discharged on day 2 post op from short stay windowless unit to a flooded house. This is certainly not "Best Practice"
