"Staff errors gave my mother internal bleeding"

About: Nevill Hall Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted with suspected DVT after having had wrist surgery at Neville Hall. She was given Warfarin and Heparin at the same time on the Emergency Assessment Unit and when moved to a ward none of the staff seemed to know what she'd been given. This resulted in her bleeding internally and becoming very frail. Staff also didn't help her with basic tasks like eating with a broken wrist - if she couldn't cut or open it, she went without, and with washing/ the toilet. The ward was freezing - minus 7 degrees one night. Overall, there was a lack of communication, care and borderline negligence.

Hello "IamMe",

Firstly, may I apologise for the delay in replying to you.

I am sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the service your mother received recently at Nevill Hall Hospital and apologise for the fact that her experience was poor.

We really try hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients and would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully and to apologise in person. I would appreciate it if you would be willing to contact Tracy Morgan, Manager, on 01873 732942, to discuss your experience futher.

Thank you.
