Anything else?
We have had both our children in the Queen Charlotte's Birth Centre. We found the experience terrific from first to last. We were keen to have as natural a birth as possible and everything in the birth centre is set up for this: The midwives are extremely supportive and allow you space to find your own best method for labour. The relaxed environment allows you to find your own rhythm and I felt extremely safe at all times. It is a lovely way to have a child. You have a large room to yourself with various things to help you get through labour; bouncy balls, slings, water pools if you want them, bed, bean bags, music system (if you want to bring your own stuff in). There is a real community feel in the centre and all the midwives were excited at the birth - as if it was the first they had ever seen! There is tea and coffee that you and partner can get at any time. I stayed in for a day (nice food too!) and my husband was able to sleep in the same room as us on both occasions - this is very special. There is support whenever you want it for breast feeding and any other things that you might be worried about - day or night. When we went back 3 years after the birth of our first child and ready to have our second, the (brilliant) midwife who delivered our first still remembered and recognised us! We felt extremely welcome and very well looked after. Both my experiences at the birth centre were absolutely brilliant.
