After waiting two months for a meeting with my sons consultant we arrived at the hospital only to be told that the consultant wasnt there and another doctor was holding the clinic. My son has ben in hospital 5 times over the last 4 montha nd recently had a ct scan and this was our opportunity to see the consultant to review the results. i was horrified when the first qusetion the consultant asked me was 'how can i help you today?', he had no patient records and had not been briefed or informed of why we were attending the clinic. We were kept waiting an hour after our appointment time, which with 15 month old is not much fun, then we were in with the doctor for over 45 minutes whilst he took down my childs history from me. The diagnosis he gave us was based on the history i gave him, he was not able to confirm the diagnosis of the previous consultant as he had no records. He could not comment on the CT scan other than a brief summary from searching notes on the computer and couldnt comment whether the condition suspected was confirmeed by the ct scan or not. We were told a CT scan is only done in exreme circumstances on a young child, and yet it does not appear to be important to be reviewed, I am sue it also costs a lot of money, we had to go to hospital and have my son sedated for the procedure, again a cost of a bed for a day. I feel extremely frustrated, anxious and concerned that my sons condition is not being taken seriously and we as partents are not being supported. Is it too much to ask to see the same consultant more than once and for patient notes to be available?
