(as a relative),

2 years ago my husband had a small cut under one of his finger nails, he was treated for fungal infection, after a few days one finger started swelling then 2 days later his whole hand had swollen. He was treated with antibiotics. then treated with 2 antibiotics which didnt do any good.

He was referred to A@E at norfolk and norwich university hospital, was admitted straight away and put on antibiotic drip for three days. When he was discharged his hand still not going down so was referred to rheumatoligy department had scans tests biopsies then had to have operation for carpel tunnel.

After 8 months was told it was FIsh Tank Granuloma, so he became known at hospital as fish finger man, this was caught from one of our fish tanks through the small cut in his finger.

He was then sent to respiratory department as this is the same strain as TB so lots more tests and lots of antibiotics also community TB services involved more biopsies and blood tests this is still ongoing.

All staff have been brilliant so helpful and kind. TB nurse Jo has been a brick always at other end of phone if a problem and home visit if needed all departments have been so good and always there for help so people if you are cleaning your fish tank and you have a cut on your hand please wear a glove.
