"No one seemed to give health care staff direction."

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

In my experience, I found the distinction between registered nurses and health care workers was too great, the former may now be called "clerks, " as they seem to do little or no nursing - I think money could be saved by having clerks rather than so many registered nurses.

Nursing is paramount for ill people - the nursing care I received was abysmal. No one seemed to give health care staff direction.

There are people with the title of matron. To me, they appear to not know what matrons used to do. They (matrons in the past) visited the wards and spoke to the patients, two people with the title (why two? ) came on to the ward and didn't speak to the patients, told the staff off for some reason and left.

I think all receptionists at Medical centres should have training in the way they make appointments, how they speak to patients, who are already anxious, nervous and in pain etc.

When they ring and need a caring, compassionate person to answer the phone, not a bossy one.

I'm sorry to hear that. We would really like to look into this further so we can correct it - we're as keen as you are for care to be well coordinated and of a high quality and for all staff to be caring and professional.

We would be very grateful if you could contact us with a little more information about the area in question so we can adress any issues there and make improvements. You can email Vivienne Knight, Deputy Director of Nursing & Quality, on vivienne.knight (at) dbh.nhs.uk. -
