"my husband is in bedford hospital ..."

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing

(as the patient),

What could be improved

my husband is in bedford hospital with a chest infection he suffers with severe enphysema and only has capacity in half a lung but he has been left in an assessment ward, a mixed ward, for five days with little support. he has great difficulty reaching the shower and this is causing him great stress. he is also in a ward with dementia patients, one of whom who was known to wander went off on saturday and was brought back three hours later by the police. there is no stimulus in the ward none of the tv's or telephones is wired up and to crown it all on friday i had to rush into a shop and buy two pillow because he was trying to sleep on one flat pillow with a severe chest complaint and the hospital had no pillows. while i have been visiting there have been up to five staff chatting at the desk and on two occasions i have had to assist an old lady of 85 in the next bed after going out twice to ask staff to assist her because i feared she was choking while trying to vomit while lying down, when staff did come they spoke to her with such a lack of respect that i felt quite upset on her behalf.

on another point the parking fees are exorbitant

i have lost all faith in this hospital and pray i never end up there
