"Top marks to the maternity wards"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Manchester)

Anything else?

I had my baby at St Mary's and can't fault them. We felt that the whole way, all decisions and advice were taken with my baby and my own safety and best interest in mind. The midwives and doctors seemed to er on the side of caution and always advised the least risky option which is what you want. I felt like I was in control with making decisions eg pain relief too. The only negatives are the food, which i did not find to be particularly nutritionally balanced nor enough quantity wise for someone who has just had a baby! Also once back in the ward after delivery if I needed anything I had to wait for hours and sometimes ask more than once. But the things that really mattered were the staff and service at delivery which I cannot fault.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope whilst you were a patient in St Mary’s Hospital. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible. In response to your comment, I can tell you that the food server at the Trust is provided by a specialist healthcare supplier, with all of the menu’s undergoing rigorous scrutiny by the Trust’s own team of Dieticians to ensure that the food available to our patients is nutritionally balanced. Where a patient remains hungry after a meal a further meal can be requested, or a snack box supplied, and I am very sorry that this was not explained to you during your stay with us. It is difficult to respond to all the posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk The Patient Experience Team Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
