"My stay at ESH"

About: East Surrey Hospital

(as the patient),

On Thursday 20 June, I was admitted to Buckland Ward for and cystoscopy/investigation under general anaesthetic. I met the lady anaesthetist and surgeon who I had met before at Crawley last October. They are both so lovely and explained what was going to happen to put me at ease as best as they could.

John who took me to theatre is just perfect for this job and has just the right persona for what is a stressful experience for anyone especially as I am such a coward!

After surgery, the nurses in there were so good and kind to me - it became apparent that I wouldn't be able to go home that day as originally planned as I was bleeding excessively and very low BP. Nothing was too mush trouble for them and I would like to say thank you for looking after me during what was an unpleasant experience.

I was then transferred to Woodland where I had my own room - I was feeling pretty dreadful and was so grateful as I honestly didn't want to speak to anyone at the time.

The staff there were just as good and did their best to look after me.

I would also commend the Catering staff as the range and quality of food they serve and prepare on what must be a very tight budget is really good specially when you consider it is a hospital and not a hotel!

No-one wants to be ill or have an operation - it is an alien experience and quite frightening but I would just like to say a big personal thank you to everyone who I came into contact with.

Dear serendipity,

Many thanks for taking the time to write about your recent experience in theatre and Woodland ward at East Surrey Hospital. As the director responsible for food I am also particularly pleased to read your pragmatic comments about the hospital catering - not always something that others speak of so highly!

I will endeavour to pass on your comments to John in theatres who I'm sure will want to read the kind words that you have written about him and the reast of the team.

It is also pleasing that when you found you needed to be admitted rather than go home that you were relieved to be offered a single room on Woodland and that you found the ward so supportive.

Kind regards

Ian
