"Most of the support workers are superb, they care and work their socks off."

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Parkwood inpatient unit

(as the patient),

Most of the support workers are superb, they care and work their socks off. Three particular nurses who do make a point of talking with you. They put the patients before the typing. You can hear the them typing at 10 at night because they have taken the time and trouble to talk to you and care for you.

Cleanliness depends on a particular cleaner which is not consistent. We need to ensure all cleaners are thorough. We need more information about any new medication we are being given. We used to receive the leaflet but not consistent now.

The ward is run for the convenience of the staff not the patients. The patients feel unimportant, a nuisance to staff who are busy. Let the staff do the job they're trained for and that mostly want to do - to be with and help patients.

There also needs to be a lot more focus on physical health - it's not separate but fundamental to my mental well-being.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We are currently seeking to improve the way we communicate regarding medication and our Restart and Recovery Team have recently joined with the Pharmacy Team to provide weekly information sessions for all service users to discuss areas of their medication, and if required will be given a 1-1 session with their named Pharmacist.

Unfortunately wards need a certain amount of routine to function but it seems from your comments that we need to revisit this and the Modern Matron has asked the Practice Development Nurse to spend time on the unit specifically around the way the work is allocated to different team members on the wards. The Practice Development Nurse is also doing some bespoke 1-1 work with all ward staff about the importance of individual’s physical health and how it links with their health and wellbeing.
