"111 service: Poor advice"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111

(as a parent/guardian),

My 1 year old daughter developed pus in a TB vaccination site 6 weeks after the injection. I didn't want to bother the GP, just wanted to double check that this is relatively normal.

I called 111, answered all the questions, and was told to take her to the emergency clinic within 6 hours. This did not make sense so I asked to speak with a clinician. She called back and I went through the whole thing again (she didn't have all the information I had given) and said I need to take her to the clinic because she had a slight temperature (she was also teething).

The person I spoke to was perfectly nice and polite but had no idea about what is normal for a post vaccination site for TB and couldn't put me in touch with anyone who knew.

My daughter is fine, I did not get her out of bed and take her to the hospital as I was advised and I found the service utterly useless. I feel the person who took the call initially just filled in a form and if particular questions are answered as 'yes', you basically get told to go to the doctor.

I got a better answer from googling the problem (which I in principle disagree with when it comes to health) which was then confirmed when I spoke to the vaccination nurse the next day.
