I went in for a knee arthroscopy. I'm no stranger to this as have had this and an acl reconstruction done before at Salisbury and the experience of care and information received there was excellent. The pre and post op nurses at Winchester were lovely and really attentive. Also, I got seen as soon as I was in there and the doctors seemed fairly competent, efficient and answered my pre op questions satisfactorily. My recovery 2 days later seems to be coming on well so I assume, with whatever was done in the surgery was done competently, but time will tell. What I didn't expect was that I would wake up and be shafted from the hospital without anyone even seeing me for 30 seconds to let me know what had been found or done during my op and I was given no opportunity to ask any questions about what had been done. A short amount of time dedicated to this would have sufficed. I hardly think that an appointment 4 weeks down the line is sufficient after care and the lack of information is slightly worrying. All I was given was a copy of surgeon's notes that I can barely make sense of and then a leaflet of exercises to continue to do until the physio contacts me... if ever. After care for patients needs much improvement.
