"Endoscopy: Staff deserve highest praise"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I had an endoscopy/gastroscopy at KMH. Everyone - Dr Chaterjee and his team - deserve the very highest praise. I had read the notes explaining the procedure etc and thought that it would be better to have sedation but during the preliminary chat with a nurse I realised that it would not be necessary. This preliminary introduction was of immense help and - as with the entire experience - was conducted in a very friendly, caring manner.

Once I was prepared for the procedure I was led to a comfortable waiting area. I was then seen by Dr Chaterjee who went through the documentation and took me through to get ready for the endoscopy. He introduced me to the two nurses and explained fully the procedure that would follow. The whole procedure went very smoothly. I was constantly reassured by everyone and reminded to keep to the desired position etc. I found it very comforting.

At the end the Doctor explained what he had done and why. I was given the opportunity to ask questions and then wheeled away to the recovery area until I was able to leave. My appointment had been at 1: 30pm and I left at a few minutes after 3pm. This team set an excellent example of how to treat a patient.
