What I liked
i went to the nhs walk in centre with my 9 month old daughter , Rebecca silk, and was told that she had a virus, she had a temperature of 38.2 with her moods going up and down, they sent me away telling me to use calpol. later that evening i rang in and told them that my daughter had reached a temperature of 39.1 and was shivering, i was told that there was nothing that could be done. i have always believed that once ANYBODY reached a high temp to take them in to hospital, but my concerns were ignored by the walk in centre. i trusted my instincts and took her a + e. we were told there could be waiting time of up to 3 hours but we were called in within 15 minutes. the staff was absolutely brilliant. they checked her temperature and was then put straight into a room with air - con and gave her neurofen and calpol. she was crying 99% of the time but the staff were great. they kept checking that we were all ok and keeping us posted on what was happening. my daughter was to be taken up to the childrens ward, we were told that it would be 20 minutes, they then came in to tell us that they had got quite busy and there could be a longer wait ( which was only 10 minutes).
when taken up to the childrens ward, the staff made her comfortable and gave her a dose of medicine. all the staff were really friendly and were great support. nothing was left without attention, all the staff were really doing everything they could possibly think of. my daughter was kept in overnight and was sent home the following morning following a final check with the peadiatrition and the registrar.
i would like to thank all the staff on the a + e department, and on the amazon ward (hippo bay) working mainly on the night shift who offered myself and my husband somewhere to sleep, but also on the day shift who gave brilliant advice.
Your help was really appreciated, many thanks.
What could be improved
absolutely nothing.
