"Radiology and Car Parking"

About: King George Hospital

Anything else?

I am currently undergoing a number of tests at KGH. My appointments have been prompt and the scans carried out quickly. I was disappointed after a stomach ultrasound to be left with clothes covered in lubricant - a case of staff being too considerate of my modesty - would have liked the option of removing them to be offered. On the first occasion I asked my partner to drop me off and pick me up and I had no idea how long the appointment would take (and the last time I used the car park it was 'pay on arrival' and guessing how long the appointment would take was a lottery). This time, reassured that I would be no longer than an hour, and pleased that the system was now 'pay on exit' I left my partner to wait in the car park. However, on rejoining her we (and another driver) could not find out where to pay for our parking. As we were blocking the exit the security staff informed us that the payment machines were back by the A&E exit. Nowhere in the car park is this made clear! Accordingly we had to reverse back into a parking space and I had to return to the hospital to make the payment. It would be helpful to have signs indicating where the payment machines were on entering the car park, and also written on the tickets. Not all drivers are patients who will enter the hospital and find the machines. NB. I note that 'Radiology/X-ray is not on the drip-down menu for department visited - I have put 'Dont know'

Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices. I am pleased to hear that you have been seen promptly and tests have been carried out quickly. There is some signage about the payment machines, but from your comments, this is clearly not adequate. I will certainly take your comments and will follow this up. Thank you for the suggestion. Yours sincerely Jackie Nugent Director of Estates
