"Disabled access to Dermatology"

About: Solihull Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

For those in a wheelchair, this department is nigh on impossible to use. Sure, you can get to it, having to travel right across the hospital, and down a steep ramp.

Without assistance, how am I (aged 72) supposed to get BACK up this steep ramp? My Wife (aged 68) can't push me, as she's had her chest opened twice for heart surgery, and the load hurts her chest.

This department needs parking space at that end of the hospital. Good parking for staff though. NOT a happy patient.

Dear 'Birksee'

I am so sorry you experienced such difficulty accessing the Dermatology Service at Solihull Hospital which, as you quite rightly describe, is currently located down a ramp for patient's entering the hospital through the main entrance. Your comments are very timely though as there is now a plan to relocate the Dermatology service into the main part of the hospital, although I completely appreciate that will not help should you need an appointment in the near future. I'm not clear whether you have a 'blue badge sticker' from your email. However, if you do have a blue badge I am able to look at how we could accommodate your vehicle nearer the Dermatology clinic. If you would like us to look into making these arrangements, please can I ask that you call my Patient Services team on 0121 424 0808 ahead of any future appointments so that we can make appropriate enquiries for you. I will also put a request into the hospital's Estate's team to see how we could potentially arrange some interim parking for patients near the Dermatology unit. Please be aware that any details of alternative parking arrangements will be communicated through the Dermatology Clinic at Solihull and an update will also be posted on this site.

Best wishes

Simon
