"AAA repair operation"

About: Salisbury District Hospital

Anything else?

I was given very good treatment in Salisbury when I had a AAA repair operation, however there was one exception. The surgeon ripped off the adhesive wound dressing causing a large area of skin to be torn off which made me wince to say the least, leaving further areas prone to infection. Incidentally I did contract post op MRSA in the op wound, which was dealt promptly by my local surgery. On my post op consultation I challenged him about this and showed him a post hospital photograph he shrugged it off saying whether he removed the dressing slowly or fast it would still hurt. My point is it may hurt taken off slowly but it would remove less or no skin if done carefully and not cause further injury that could get infected. My sister is a nurse and says this sort of reaction from a surgeon is not uncommon, I suggest they should have some training about this attitude that is doesn't matter and they should avoid further unnecessary injury.
