"A+E - Miscarriage on New Years Eve"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Anything else?

Attended A+E on 30th December by ambulance due to severe cramping in early pregnancy. Had already attended the day previously with a low -ish HCG and was discharged being told it was likely I would miscarry as I had spotting. On re-admission, I was seen by an extremely rude female support worker in triage who when I advised I needed to make sure my arms were hot before attempting to draw blood as I have very bad veins to the point a consultant anaesthetist has previously scanned my veins and put my arms in hot water to find a line, she responded with 'it's a myth, it's not real, that won't work' while up close in my face. I was having severe cramps and bleeding at this point and asked for a break from trying to draw blood (11 attempts) as I was in tears knowing I was miscarrying and in pain, but they continued regardless to the point my veins collapsed and they had to go get a specialist to do it but my veins had blown too much at this point to obtain a good amount. I then spent 3 hours in the waiting room waiting to be seen by a junior who advised my HCG was now 7 so I couldn't have been pregnant as the test was negative - despite previous 3 positive tests and a high HCG. Was not even seen by a consultant who I could hear behind the curtain talking to a junior and told him to send me home as it was probably just a late period and to give me some painkillers for period pain. The next day I was called by the Gynae ward who confirmed my bloods previously did show that I had suffered a miscarriage and apologised for A+E. Disgusting experience, thankfully I have a Consultant in another area of the hospital who actually knows what he's doing. Will definately recommend avoiding this A+E - shoddy, self righteous staff.
