About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

Anything else?

She has now passed away. I was then told to ring the bereavement line this morning, nothing more than a voice mail asking me to leave a name and number. However during the final visit last night my father who is confused managed to get himself locked in the secure X-Ray area of the hospital for over an hour. How a 60+ year old man who walks with a walking stick and is confused manages to break into what should be one of the most secure areas of a hospital was beyond me; the staff and the security there. They did not realise he was there despite the alarms sounding for an hour! How this happened is a mystery, pursuant to the lackadaisical attitude of this hospital.

We're very sorry for your loss and extremely concerned to read your comments about your late grandmothers experience and the events concerning your father. As a Trust we are committed to giving the highest quality of care to our patients and relatives. This clearly does not correlate with what you describe. In order for us to investigate the serious concerns you raise, we would like the opportunity to discuss them with you more fully. When you are ready, we would appreciate it if you would be willing to contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01323 435886 (or by email on PALSE@esht.nhs.uk). In the meantime we will ensure your comments are passed onto senior nursing staff.
