I feel compelled to write a review as the NHS gets quite a bashing. I was extremely nervous about a gastroscopy procedure and had worked myself up into quite a state. My first contact was a lovely nurse who chatted with me about the procedure and never once made me feel foolish for my fears. Whilst I wasn't too afraid of the procedure , the thing that was freaking me out was the fact that I had to wear a mouthpiece as I have a real phobia about things being in my mouth and my not being able to swallow. The nurse kindly went to find the various mouthpieces available for me to find the most comfortable , and to be fully aware of what it would feel like in my mouth. This removed a lot of the fear, and I felt able to opt for the throat spray and not the sedation option. Having said that , I was then sent to a waiting room for an hour and a half in which time I ping-ponged between abject panic and calming myself down . I know there can always be delays , however when people are waiting for a somewhat unpleasant experience I really feel the wait should be kept to a minimum. The gastroscopy itself was nowhere near as bad as I had feared , the staff were professional , kind and very calming. I felt in control in that I knew I could halt the procedure at any time by raising my hand., this took any anxiety away, The whole thing was done in 5 minutes , and a lovely nurse stroked my head the entire time and encouraged me with my breathing.Well done to all concerned, and my thanks to all.
"Excellent care , professional service"
