"A & E - just brilliant!"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

Anything else?

Letter sent : Some ten days ago (Friday June 14th), while riding at a gallop in the Three Shires Head area I was, unfortunately, bucked off! Had I been 20 years younger I am sure I would’ve got up and brushed myself down and just incurred a few bruises. Sixty is not the new forty! I feel I can speak with authority on that issue now. I was ‘floored’! I lay on the hillside, in the rain. I couldn’t move. The emergency services were duly called. A first responder arrived and wrapped me in foil and blankets. The ambulance came from Stoke. It had been a challenge for them negotiating the local terrain to get to me. The paramedics were just brilliant – really lovely people who showed me real care and the relief of shared humour. Off came the wet clothes, on went the heater. They made me as comfortable as possible and delivered me to Macclesfield A&E. Here, I was dealt with by a team of people who were amazingly calm, efficient and smiled a lot. There was a lovely atmosphere and I felt reassured that I was in the best of hands. Several hours later I emerged from the hospital as walking (well just about) wounded! Xrays showed no (recent) damage. I had been very lucky! Thank you so much for your wonderful service and to all those contributors to your team. I would like to make a donation in recognition…. nothing huge I’m sorry to say… but a contribution either to your staff social fund or a charity of the team’s choice.
