About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I cannot understand why if ( as happened in my case) one consulant needs to refer you to another consultant in the same hospital it has to go back to ones GP to be refered again.

This has resulted in letters going astray & so far six weeks delay so far & all my GP says he will write to them again.

Not very satisfactory to one who is waiting for treatment,

Why cant one consultant refer you to another straight away?

Thank you for your comments about the care you received while at the QEII. As you may or may not know, our funding comes principally from our local primary care trust (PCT). The issue of referrals between consultants is one that the PCT has requested be returned, in the first instance, to every patient’s GP when this happens – other than in an emergency, of course. While we are happy to follow the PCT’s instructions in this regard, we also work hard to minimise any delay that this process may cause our patients. If you do wish to discuss your particular case, then please contact our patient advice and liaison service (PALS) team on 01707 369045, who will be happy to follow your case up with the relevant clinical team in the hospital.
